Art Notes COURTESY THE ARTIST F James Bland's Hall of State, 2007, at Valley View Mall's Gallery at Midtown all in the Texas art world mixes high and low, the beautiful and sublime, the underground, the ridiculous and the activist. Much of the action centers around museums, beginning with the November 27 opening of the Renzo Piano Pavilion at the Kimbell Art Museum … Dallas Museum of Art's triple play is also enticing: Jim Hodges' ethereal installations (October 6 – January 12), the incomparable Edward Hopper's drawing (November 17– February 16) and, up now, a stroll through classical Greece and Rome in "The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece: Masterworks from the British Museum," which brings Discobolus to town (through October 6) … Nor is the Nasher Sculpture Center to be left out: Buzz is building about the upcoming decade marker "NasherXChange." Hometown participants: the reunited Good/Bad Art Collective from UNT, which is filming an infomercial — you're invited to guest star — in the Bryan Tower downtown; the ad will be broadcast locally and nationally in odd time slots. We're also rooting for Vicki Meek, in dialogue with Paul Quinn College, formerly the historic Bishop College, whose alum include Martin Luther King and Jesse Jackson … Next month, Make Art with Purpose unfurls its ambitious triennial programming, led by director Janeil Engelstad, bringing in everyone from environmental pioneers The Harrisons to shaman Susan Plum … Finally, the Gallery at Midtown is not your usual art space. It's in the reinvigorated Valley View Mall, Preston Road, which thanks to the art element has literally been given a new lease on life. Opening Saturday, September 21, PaperCity photog James Bland collaborates with actor-pointillist painter Kevin Page in "Texas Signs and Places" (through September 27).
