Restaurant Buzz PC Acquire: JANE EIFLER Texas talent Jane Eifler, best known as a painter, steps out to play with collage for this month's PC Acquire. Her secondgeneration images are seamlessly applied to PVC substrate, each one unique and culled from a curated collection of beauty and fashion ads clipped from magazines (PaperCity is a fave), posh catalogs and other ephemera. Eifler is a master of the minimal, leaving space and air to float and swirl around her torn pages. Shown last fall in McClain Gallery's big painting survey (Houston) curated by Aaron Parazette, she opens this month at another respected Houston gallery, longtime dealer McMurtrey, in a group view about the art of collage. Eifler is poised at this juncture— after a stint at Vogue magazine where she began her career, a distinguished 20-year period teaching art at Houston private school St. John's and a return to college for her MFA — with important things to say about the language of abstraction and the primacy and beauty of our imagesaturated media. Secondgeneration unique paper collages on PVC substrate, 30 x 40 inches, $2,300. Inquiries Seth Vaughan, seth@papercitymag.com. For the complete collection, papercitymag.com/Arts. Thus, the Dallasite set out to design a collection of vintage-inspired clutches bearing the name Charlotte Max, after their inspiration. "I have been obsessed with 1950s Lucite handbags for a decade," Lockhart says. "They are unique and beautiful but difficult to find in mint condition." So she began recreating some of her favorites. The vintageinspired Maria (a nod to her spunky sister-in-law) is available in seven striking colors — think holographic midnight blue and pearly white — and comes with a semiprecious stone or brooch clasp; tucked inside is a tiny turtle representing longevity and beauty. Lockhart also sources and sells vintage bags, all perfectly preserved. "Finding them is like a needle in a haystack!," she says.
