Move Over El Morocco Not often does the deco grande dame JPMorgan Chase Building transform its marble-and-travertine lobby from a showplace for commercial endeavors to the stage for one of the leading Lynn Wyatt benefits of the social season. But this spring was such an occasion, when Carol and Mike Linn chaired the Alley Theatre Ball, christened Supper Club in an ode to the glamorous sip, sup and dance palaces that defined 1930s and '40s Manhattan nightlife. The evening in one of the most beautifully preserved gilded skyscrapers in America also referenced the Alley's own $73 million capital campaign, which restores and updates its iconic 1968 Ulrich Franzen-designed building. Richard Flowers' Andrea Tellepsen The Events Company took cues from legendary spots such as El Morocco for the zebra-striped, dramatically lit and gardenia-perfumed room, while City Kitchen found inspiration in classics — 21 Club's Senegalese soup, bacon-wrapped filet mignon and pêche melba. Also contributing to the sublime was the dulcet voice of Linda Eder, famed for her star turn on the Alley then Broadway stages in Jekyll & Hyde; Eder brought down the house with "Someone Like You."
