A Not so Dry Bar at the Drybar Fête Janet Gurwitch, Alli Webb and Buttercup blow and go. BY ERIN OPPENHEIM. PHOTOGRAPHY ROSWITHA VOGLER. W hat's better than a perfect blowout done by a blow-dryer named Buttercup? Perhaps the sight of Buttercup blow-dryers hanging from the trees at the stunning home of Janet Gurwitch, Laura Mercier founder and Drybar investor, which was recently designed by fab designer Randy Powers. To celebrate the official arrival of Drybar to Houston, Drybar Renee founder Alli Webb and CEO Michael Landau Lewis Cary flew in from LA, which is where Drybar began, to help host this amazing evening of Corduacatered culinary feats, which included a vertical salad bar as well as haute gastronomie push pop desserts. But back to Drybar, which is a simple yet brilliant salon concept: offer blowouts from a menu of styles, in and out in a matter of minutes, for chump change ($40). In 6 short years short years, 33 Drybar salons have opened across the US. Sporting the signature Up-Tini style, Webb worked the Ting crowd of socials, who squealed Bresnahan Lindley Arnoldy like they were at an Hermès sale when they caught sight of the fabulous, and bulging, gift bags stuffed with their very own sunny yellow Buttercup blow dryer, a Lemon Drop hair brush, product samples and certificates for blowouts. PHOTOGRAPHY KIM COFFMAN, DAVE ROSSMAN. ach year, hundreds of people join the Holocaust Museum Houston for the presentation of the Lyndon Baines Johnson Moral Courage Award presented to a true hero of society. These select individuals possess not only the ambition to fight anti-Semitism, but also the tenacity to push on when others seem determined to stop them. More than 900 guests convened at the Hilton Americas-Houston to celebrate this year's honoree, Father Patrick Desbois. The French Catholic priest is president of Yahad-In Unum, and his tireless efforts have resulted in the discovery of more than 2,000 mass graves from the Holocaust in Eastern Europe. Father Desbois and his team go door to door in small villages, searching for surviving witnesses who can point them in the direction of unmarked graves before the last of the generation passes away. But Desbois wasn't the only special guest on hand. The evening's keynote speaker was former secretary of state Madeleine Albright, who earned a standing ovation as she took the stage. She closed the evening by urging all to stand strong and be courageous in the face of hate. By the end of the night, more than $1.1 million had been raised. Coming together for humanity: chairmen Barbara and Michael Gamson, former Museum chair Tali Blumrosen with husband Eric Blumrosen, new Museum chair Mark Mucasey with wife Judy, Southwest Consul General to Israel Meir Shlomo, Eric Blumrosen Peter Berkowitz, Fred Zeidman, and Holocaust Madeleine survivors Anna Steinberger and Bill Morgan.
