GREEN ACRES Bobby Tudor at Gala on the Green Phoebe Tudor A Wonderful Wulfe, a Formidable Fifth Birthday and Too Many Hats to Count for Memorial Park Conservancy, Discovery Green and Hermann Park PHOTOGRAPHY PRISCILLA DICKSON M emorial Park Conservancy's Green Gala honored Houston real estate icon Ed Wulfe on the momentous occasion of the park's 90th anniversary. Wulfe played an integral role in orchestrating the park's inclusion in the Uptown tax increment reinvestment zone boundary's expansion, which means welcome economic contributions that will go towards the park's master plan. Devising the plan is ascendant landscape architect Thomas Woltz, who was in from New York not only for the seated supper at a private club on the periphery of the park, but to further his work relating to the park's reimagining. Chairman Anna Thomsen Holliday welcomed guests for the gathering, which also included Boy Scout Troop 354 being honored with the 2014 Ima Hogg Service Award. Lush life: MPC executive director Shellye Arnold and Tina Sabuco, Lorraine Wulfe and daughter Ellyn, Mayor Annise Parker, MPC board vice chair Mindy Hildebrand and husband Jeff (who provided after- party confections from River Oaks Donuts), Joanne and Welcome Wilson, Hal Holliday, Ellen Cohen, and Elaine and Marvy Finger. Seth Vaughan I t was happy fifth birthday to Discovery Green, which has welcomed five million visitors and spurred some $625 million in surrounding economic development since its completion. The night's chairmen, H-E-B's Soraya and Scott McClelland, devised an exceptional soirée that included a Tony's catered dinner amidst resplendent surrounds imagined by Richard Flowers and Kirksey Gregg of The Events Company, Ward & Ames and Julie Bergen. Board chair Anne Duncan took the stage, expressing heartfelt thanks to the night's chairmen, noting that a boat in the park's lake (named after Nancy and Rich Kinder) would be christened in their honor. Jolly green giants: park president and director Barry Mandel, Charles Duncan, Franci Crane, Bobbie and John Nau, Yvonne and Rufus Cormier, Tricia and David Dewhurst, Tom Walters and Hollis Kazmann, Lori Krohn and Phillip Sarofim, Claire Cormier Thielke, and Rick Thielke. Seth Vaughan A record number of berets, boaters and bonnets made for a joyous Hats in the Park for Hermann Park, which coincidentally fell on Fat Tuesday. Chairman Laurie Morian and honorary chairman Lynn Wyatt were reason enough for ladies and a few gents to brave a cold and rainy day, all in the park's name. Todd Fiscus of Todd Events created a charming mis en scène for the seated lunch, which included a wall covered entirely in handmade paper flowers behind the dais. The event's honoree, self-described Louisiana girl Cherie Flores, gave the lowdown on how to finagle one's husband to donate $5 million (as hers did in honor of the park's centennial) toward one's cause. Flores is a green thumb through and through; look no further than her immaculate flowerbeds that frame her River Oaks house. Passing the hat: Hermann Park Conservancy executive director Doreen Stoller, Susie and Sanford Criner, Conservancy board chair Ann Kennedy, Linda McReynolds, Jeanie Kilroy Wilson, Elyse Lanier, Tiffany Masterson, Ceron, Minnette Boesel, Kristy Bradshaw, Estela Cockrell, Denise Monteleone, Diane Lokey Farb, Valerie Dietrich, Audrey Cochran, and Jana Arnoldy.
