But many other firsts were recently revealed by the health community's social scene. The Woman's Hospital of Texas is the first healthcare institution in Houston focused solely on the care of women and infants. Its 10th Annual Labor Day Luncheon & Style Show — chaired by Woman's CEO Linda Russell and March of Dimes Guild board member Michelle L. Smith — was an Emerald City-themed bazaar with 25 pop- up boutiques, which donated 10 percent of profits to the March of Dimes Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Family Support Program. Houston Methodist staged its first-ever fund-raising fête, Rendezvous in Blue, amidst the indigo-illuminated interiors of the Hilton Americas–Houston. Chairmen Emily and Holcombe Crosswell, along with Loretta and Robert Moses Jr. celebrated the medical system's 94th year of advanced healthcare research and treatment. A video — introduced by first daughter Jenna Bush Hager and Mark Vandermeer, aka the voice of the Houston Texans — honored couples Ginger and Jack Blanton, Janet and Ernie Cockrell, Anne and Charles Duncan, Lynda and David Underwood, as well as Paula and Rusty Walter for their generosity in helping Houston Methodist become the first- ranked adult hospital in Texas. At the CancerForward: We Can Go Forward Luncheon at the River Oaks Country Club, Cora Sue and Harry Mach, Carmen and Butch Mach, and Joella and Steve Mach received The H. Rudy Teichman Anchor of Strength Award. Chairmen Tena and Tyson Faust, Rosemarie and Matt Johnson, as well as Lindsey Love welcomed speaker Ted Kennedy Jr., who shared his own battle with childhood cancer and his experiences as a cancer caregiver for his late father. All proceeds from the luncheon helped CancerForward — the visionary organization headed up by Beth Sanders Moore — empower the lives of cancer survivors.
