Photography Lizette Soto. N ot all who wander are lost. As it turns out, some who wander are just very, very chic. Decorator Michelle Nussbaumer is one such traveler — she credits her time spent as a newlywed living in Rome with her entrée into the world of design. She began collecting antiques from the Italian countryside, and when she officially had too much inventory for her city home and her 16th-century country house in Umbria, she began selling overflow to her fellow expat friends. Naturally, decoration services followed. After countless weekend jaunts abroad and a move to L.A., Nussbaumer settled in Dallas and opened the beloved shop Ceylon et Cie. The tales and photographic evidence of her travels and rich designs fill the pages of her new book, Wanderlust: Interiors That Bring the World Home (Rizzoli). She touched down in Houston to sign copies at Mecox. Mecox founders Mac Hoak and Fred Perkins, along with manager John Tucker, hosted friends and clients for drinks and lots of laughs with the ever entertaining Nussbaumer.
