80 LIGHT BULB MOMENT BY REBECCA SHERMAN A t age 73, mod- e r n l i g h t i n g master Robert Sonneman is behind some of the most iconic designs of the mid-20th cen- tury, with 1,800 designs manufactured to date. Sonneman recently collaborated with RH Modern on 11 of his most recogniz- able mid-century lighting designs from the '60s and '70s, reimagined in solid brass. The lineup includes the classic Orbiter floor lamp, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year, along with his postmodern geometric Constructivist panel pendants, ribbon-like Cathedral chandeliers, minimalist Tubular task table and floor lamps, and kinetic Tandem Counterweight floor lamp. Sonneman began his lighting career with the legendary George Kovacs, pioneering contemporary lighting as art form and lending his substantial creativity over the decades to Ralph Lauren Home, Nissan Motor Corp, Pratt School of Architecture, and Parsons School of Design. Museums around the world have exhibited his lighting, including the Museum of Modern Art and Cooper-Hewitt Museum.
