14 letter editor STEVEN VISNEAU, SISTERBROTHER MGMT. M y, what a year this has been. The past 12 months have been remarkable, to say the least. As I write this letter, it's barely a week since we elected a new president, filling our country with a mix of hope and doubt, disappointment and optimism — and, perhaps most significantly, an overriding feeling that all of us together are bravely looking into the unknown. Four days after the election, Forty Five Ten on Main opened its doors. Before its official opening, I previewed the new store, walking its four magnificent floors in relative quiet, with just the Forty Five Ten team and a handful of its closest friends and clients buzzing around. I stopped to congratulate and chat with president and co-founder Brian Bolke — and it all sunk in. This is not just a store, or a beautiful addition to our reinvigorated downtown. It's not just a business or an exciting place to shop. Instead, it is a breath of fresh air — a reminder that exquisite design (be it an entire boutique or a handbag, a gown or a candle) is here to help pull us out of reality and into a world where anything is possible. That's why so many of us fell in love with fashion — and magazines, for that matter — to begin with. During times when things feel overwhelming, serious, even confusing, these are the places we go to dream, and where the dreamers get to share their work for the benefit of us all. At PaperCity, we very much feel those responsibilities, and I con- sider myself lucky to be charged with such a task each month. Years ago, Vogue magazine published a list of hopes for its readers for the coming year. I tore out the page and refer to it regularly. It reads: "Be bold. Savor the moment. Get inspired. Make headlines. Take heart. Get in the swing. Take a dare. Team up. Buck convention. Stay on your toes." Looking into 2017, may you strive to do exactly all those things.
