D ecorator Mark Sikes feels blue, almost all the time. Not sad, just intoxicated with blue stripes, ceru- lean chinoiserie, cobalt checks, and indigo chintz. A rocket in the design world, he is the creator of one of the most photo- graphed rooms at Kips Bay Show House, designer of MDS Stripes womenswear, has new collections of fabrics and wallpapers through Schumacher, and is featured in umpteen spreads in decorat- ing magazines. He's also the designer for Reese Witherspoon's new shop, Draper James, and designer for director Nancy Meyers' sets for The Intern, as well as Meyers' own home in Beverly Hills. And, lest we forget, he's the author of the new best-seller Beautiful: All-American Decorating and Timeless Style (Rizzoli). And that's just this year. Schumacher heads pulled out the stops at the Dallas showroom for their new baby blue with cocktails and book signing for the entranced design world. At the end of the evening, after every book was signed, Schumacher's pres Benni Frowein, creative director Dara Caponigro, Steve Kleiner, Whitney Rogers, and Karine Robinson all in from NYC headquarters for the evening, retired to Bilboquet restaurant for an intime dinner, where they talked dec- orating until the wee hours. At the signing, throngs of stylish types lined up to snag a signature from the talented MDS.
