22 HEY, BIG SPENDER SHELBY HODGE SEES THE GUSHER. PHOTOGRAPHY PRISCILLA DICKSON, WILSON PARISH. M uch like his native state, everything is bigger when oilman/philanthropist Lester Smith is involved. This year, when he and his family — wife Sue and his children and their spouses, Shelly and Brian Hendry and Limor and Stuart Smith — chaired the Holocaust Museum Houston Lyndon Baines Johnson Moral Courage Award Dinner, they doubled the prior fund-raising record, bringing the grand total to $4.2 million. George W. Bush, this year's honoree, shared his wit and wisdom on stage at the Hilton Americas-Houston, with interviewer Fred Zeidman, chairman emeritus of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Contributing to the evening's success was an impressive roster of honorary chairs: Senator Joe Lieberman, Margaret Alkek Williams, Mayor Sylvester Turner and the entire Bush family. WHO: Holocaust Museum Houston board chair Gary Markowitz and wife Sunni, Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan, Mayor Pro Tem Ellen Cohen, Consul General of Israel Gilad Katz, Kelli Cohen Fein and Martin Fein, Marcia and David Solomon, Beth Wolff, Julie Baker Finck and Ron Finck, Jeri and Marc Shapiro, Barbara and Charles Hurwitz, Anat and Jay Zeidman, Benjamin Warren, Heidi Gerger, and Lainie Gordon and David Mincberg.
