Anspon Photography Jenny Antill Clifton, Daniel Ortiz W hat better way to kick off the second year of Texas Design Week than with the PaperCity Design Awards at Tilman Fertitta's brilliant new project, The Post Oak Hotel. Cocktails in the lobby that overlooks a two-story Rolls- Royce, Bugatti, and Bentley dealership preceded the ceremony in The Post Oak Ballroom. Architect/designer Ray Booth of McAlpine and Gen and Benjamin Sohr of Pencil & Paper Creative Development Co. — three of this year's judges — chat- ted with designers, architects, and other design enthusiasts before announcing the winning entries in 19 categories and presenting the Baccarat awards to the winners. Also judging the near 300 entries: designers Miles Redd, Alex Papachristidis, Joe Nahem of Nahem-Fox, and Schumacher creative director Dara Caponigro. Two special awards were also presented. The Resiliency Award went to Rusty Arena of Arena Design for his indomitable spirit and hard work rebuilding after Hurricane Harvey devastated his workshop and showroom. The Greater Good Award, which honors projects for their scope, design, and service to Houston, was bestowed on the teams responsible for the restoration of Levy Park: OJB Landscape Architecture (accepted by the firm's Chip Trageser), Natalye Appel + Associates Architects (accepted by Natalye Appel), and Upper Kirby Foundation (accepted by board chair Maureen Sanders).
