T hose attending the Houston Ballet Ball took the Heroes, Gods and Stars theme to heart by stepping out in sparkling gowns that could vie with the constellations. LED fairy lights in formations of Aquarius, Aries, and the like twinkled overhead in the gilded party tent that blossomed next to the Houston Ballet Center for Dance. None sparkled more than gala chairs Kelley Lubanko, in a celestial frock by Jenny Packham, and Leigh Smith, wearing an ephemeral Marchesa gown. They were accompanied in their feat of fundraising, a record $1.6 million, by husbands, Stephen Lubanko and Reggie Smith. Winning kudos for her fashion savvy was honoree Leticia Loya in Chanel haute couture, who shared the spotlight with fellow honoree ConocoPhillips, represented by Laura Robertson. The night was all the more dazzling thanks to Tenenbaum Jewelers' Tony Bradfield and Kevin Black, who donated 18 jaw-dropping pieces to the silent auction. In the crowd were Houston Ballet managing director James Nelson, Lynn Wyatt, Allison and Troy Thacker, Holly and Austin Alvis, Ann Trammell, Anne and Albert Chao, Shawn Stephens and Jim Jordan, Jay Jones and Terry Wayne Jones, Beth Muecke, Beth and Nick Zdeblick, and Diane Lokey Farb.
