8 DIVE INTO OUR DIGITAL WORLD PAPERCITYMAG.COM THE GIVING MAN O ne of Houston's most generous philanthropists is gone, leaving behind a long legacy of giving. Lester Smith died in his sleep in his Memorial home at age 76. Known as much for his playful bravura as for his deep pockets, Smith and his wife, Sue, are esteemed for the extraordinary multi-million- dollar gifts they've distributed across Houston over several decades. "I love giving away money," Smith once told PaperCity. "That's the only reason I work — to make more money to give more money away." This turned her simple walk up the arena stairs into a 20-minute-plus process — and Biles didn't seem to mind a bit. PaperCity digital director Chris Baldwin takes you behind the scenes. It needs to be something special for him to make an exception. When he brought his wife, Camila Alves; his three kids Levi, Vida, and Livingston; and his mom, Mary Kathlene McCabe, to the Texas Medal of Arts Awards, he made a powerful statement. This Texas medal matters. Read more at papercitymag.com/ matthew-mcconaughey. NEWSLETTER SIGN-UP D on't be the last to get the new PC Daily.
