W e can't get enough of Tom Scheerer's m a s t e r f u l l y unpretentious yet b re a t h t a k i n g l y beautiful decorating style. Fortunately, our prayers to peek at more Scheerer projects have been answered as Vendome releases his second book, More Decorating this month. Scheerer is renowned for his work at Lyford Cay Club (that hand-painted grasscloth palm- tree wallpaper!), and 16 new projects are featured in the book, from town (New York, Dallas, Houston, Paris) to country (the Hamptons, Nantucket, Maine, Harbour Island, Antigua, Abaco). The book's pages, splashed with Francesco Lagnese's stunning photographs, are a study in Scheerer's perfect proportions, and masterful mix of natural materials. We caught up with the Architectural Digest AD100 designer — who splits his time between homes in New York, Paris, and the Bahamas — to chat about his obsession with found objects, the value of small spaces, and his traveling musts. Recent Acquisition. A rare art purchase — a still life of flowers by my 26-year-old nephew, August Whitney, reminiscent of the ones by Manet at age 50 and maybe just as good. Collections. Objets trouvés. I'm mostly drawn to objects that were not designed to be art but are. In another life. Private chef and daily lunch companion for Meryl Streep. On the design horizon. Smaller, ecology-conscious places to live. The personal square-footage numbers need to plummet. More solar energy and water capture. Bedside Reading. Sadly, too much Instagram, but I do get advice from a smart friend. Most recently, a lovely memoir (my favorite genre) On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong — and an advance copy of Tom Scheerer More Decorating! Fellow designers you admire. I admire many, but as decorators, only a few. John Stefanidis always comes first to mind. On traveling. My first stops in any new city or place are the food-market streets, where there's the most to learn about the culture. It gives you an inkling of what you should eat while you are there. Inspiring locale. Greek island life inspires me summer after summer. Always in June. I'd rather not say which island … Tom Scheerer will be in Dallas Tuesday, October 8, as part of Texas Design Week for cocktails, talk, and book signing with Lisa Fine and Penny Morrison at James Showroom. Texas Design Week is a ticketed event; for tickets and complete schedule, go to TOMSCHEERER — MORE BY ANNE LEE PHILLIPS FRANCESCO LAGNESE
