F or L.A. designer Timothy Corrigan, 2019 is shaping up to be his busiest — and most exciting year yet. He's designing interiors around the globe in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and throughout the United States, including Dallas. Corrigan also has a soft spot for crumbling 18th-century French châteaux and is in the midst of restoring his second one in the Loire Valley, Château de la Chevallerie. His second book, The New Elegance: Stylish, Comfortable Rooms for Today (Rizzoli), features 11 diverse projects, including a John Fowler–inspired London townhouse, and Corrigan's own Parisian pied-à-terre. Corrigan's first collection of rugs and fabrics for Perennials debuted this fall — a project that was a long time coming. "I've been using Perennials on projects for years," he says. "It aligns perfectly with my approach to livable luxury." Corrigan's collection is inspired by his travels and his love of traditional Chinoiserie patterns and French furnishings. He's also whipped up a sumptuous palette of warm hues such as maize, gold, champagne, tin, and Delft blue — a fresh contrast to the cooler tones Perennials is known for. The Architectural Digest AD100 designer talks design, collecting, and his obsession with portrait paintings. Recent acquisition. I just bought a very charming watercolor by Raoul Dufy. I love the way he mixes colors up in delightfully unexpected ways. Collections. My two biggest obsessions are books and portrait paintings. I particularly like studies or unfinished paintings, because you can really see the artist's mind at work as he is figuring the painting out. On the design horizon. We're seeing the return to more classical, lyrical design. Colors are back. It's nice to see the pendulum swinging back to pretty. Bedside reading. Auction catalogs. And I'm currently reading a wonderfully witty biography of Madame de Pompadour by Nancy Mitford. Designers you admire. Vicente Wolf, Suzanne Tucker, Alexa Hampton, Jean-Louis Deniot. Inspiring locale. The V&A in London and the Musée Nissim de Camondo, a decorative arts museum in Paris. Timothy Corrigan will be in Dallas Monday, October 7, 6:30 pm, at David Sutherland showroom, as part of Texas Design Week Dallas, where he will discuss châteaux, his new book, and his collection for Perennials. Cocktails and book signing. TXDW Dallas is a ticketed event; for tickets and complete schedule, go to texasdesignweek.com.
