A LAYERED LIFE CATHY KINCAID'S DESIGN MISSION BY REBECCA SHERMAN 76 C athy Kincaid's rooms — Pinterest and Instagram favorites — brim with blue-and-white chinoiserie porcelains and English- inspired textiles. Her gracious interiors have been published nationally, and as an Institute of Classical Architecture & Art John Staub Award winner, the Dallas designer is highly respected for restoring historic houses and decorating with stylish antiques and collections. She's also celebrated for her sense of color, custom details, and layering of patterns. Kincaid celebrates her fi rst book, The Well Adorned Home: Making Luxury Livable (Rizzoli), with a foreword by design power duo Bunny Williams and John Rosselli. Projects range from a ship captain's cottage in Connecticut to a 1920s Spanish Colonial in Dallas and a farmhouse in the South of France. Here, Kincaid shares shopping haunts, and a passion for hand-blocked prints. Current work. We have projects all over the country, from Sun Valley to a historical renovation in Charlottesville. Recent acquisition. I'm always buying something. I just purchased a watercolor of a whaler by young artist Scott Bluedorn from East Hampton. Travel inspiration. India: The colors — and the people who wore them — inspired me. Such a beautiful country. Interior designers you admire. Bunny Williams, Veere Grenney, Joe Minton, and David Mlinaric. Bedside reading. Actually, Bunny [Williams] gave me this book, and I have loved it: Loulou & Yves: The Untold Story of Loulou de La Falaise and the House of Saint Laurent. Shopping haunts. In Dallas, Nick Brock Antiques and Wolf Hall Antique Collective. In New York City, John Rosselli & Associates, Gerald Bland, Bunny Williams Home, KRB, John Derian. Latest obsession. Lewis & Wood. Their prints have a hand- blocked look that I love, and the colors are so different. Cathy Kincaid will speak on a panel at Texas Design Week Dallas Friday, October 11, 6:30 pm, at Made Goods showroom. The panel discusses "The Art of the Book Deal – From Design Project to Book," and includes Chesie Breen, who brokered and wrote Kincaid's book; Rizzoli international senior editor Sandy Gilbert Freidus; legendary photographer Pieter Estersohn and architect Lee Ledbetter. Texas Design Week Dallas is a ticketed event. For tickets and complete TXDW schedule, go to texasdesignweek.com.
