26 J ames Beard Award-nominated chef Matt McCallister will helm The Kitchen, an intimate eatery set to open in the Virgin Hotel Dallas. The restaurant, which will be part of Commons Club — the hotel's flagship restaurant, bar, and modern social club concept — is designed by Austin-based Joel Mozersky Design, with an open kitchen, brass-and-marble bar, and chef's table. The space includes The Shag Room, an intimate '70s-inspired private dining room with serpentine banquette, smoked mirrors, and sculptural brass lighting. CB2 turned heads last year when it tapped Gwyneth Paltrow to design a collection — who can forget the CB2 MOVES IN pink velvet sofa — and it did so again in March when the brand enlisted New York designer Charlie Ferrer to scour the world for a collection of vintage furniture and accessories; his rarities are available in select CB2 stores. In August, the brand, beloved by designers for its chic, modern edge and accessible prices, launched a collection with GQ magazine, featuring strong looks in iron, oak, leather, and black to-table cuisine at Homewood and the now-shuttered FT33, McCallister plans to serve a seasonally driven menu with French influence. But CB2's biggest news yet (for us, anyway) is that CB2 has opened its first Dallas store, joining 18 others across the U.S. and Canada.
