ART + DECORATION R ubelli textiles — made by one of Italy's most legendary design families — are now available George Cameron Nash. Founded in Venice in 1889, Rubelli is a fifth-generation textile company that produces fabrics in its own mill, including handmade velvets woven on 18th-century handlooms. In the 1930s, famed modernist designer Gio Ponti created fabrics for Rubelli, some of which are still featured in the collection. Ponti's original sketches and designs are conserved in the company's archives, which house more than 7,000 textile and paper records. In addition to traditional Venetian fabrics such as precious damask and elaborate lampas, the Rubelli umbrella includes VELVET UNDERGROUND understated, neutral collections in natural fibers by Kieffer and exclusive textiles by Rubelli for Armani Casa, along with wallpapers. One highlight from Rubelli's 2021 collection is Il Marchese Di Carabà, a charming textile based on illustrations by Mexican artist Gabriel Pacheco for the fairy tale written by Perrault. The six rugs in the collection are made from hair- on-hide, with reinterpreted designs of classic Aubusson and Savonniere rugs, as well as designs influenced by the Empire and Moderne periods. Boulle, a rug named after the 17th-century French cabinetmaker, references the intricate designs he created from tortoiseshell, brass, and wood. Colors in the collection range from creamy neutrals to vivid peacock and melon. Many rugs are in stock, with custom shapes and sizes made to order. kylebunting.com.
