COURTNEY BARTON'S BIG MOVE 20 BY ANNE LEE PHILLIPS. PHOTOGRAPHY GERARDO VELASQUEZ. B eloved Houston textile designer Courtney Barton o p e n e d t h e mustard-yellow d o o r s t o h e r stunning new Houston store just weeks ago — and not a moment too soon, judging by the steady flow of CB devotees, arms filled with block- print pillows, spotted leaving Ferndale Street. Barton launched her Indian linens collection in 2011 upon returning to Houston after living abroad, and her business has grown exponentially over the past decade. Brown House and Wares' Jill Brown approached Barton, who was sharing a space nearby with Upper Kirby Consignment and The Gray Door, about taking over the bungalow, as Brown's storied 16-year run in the space was coming to an end. On the heels of the success of a Round Top store, and with a growing need for more inventory and office space in addition to retail space, Barton jumped at the opportunity; she'll carry Brown's exquisite lighting collection in- store alongside her own soft cotton Dohar blankets, Kantha quilts, tabletop, and charming objects and furnishings. The c r a f t s m a n - s t y l e b u n g a l o w with its painted floors serves as a fitting mise en scène for B a r t o n 's i m p e c c a b l e E a s t - meets-West vignettes. There's even an adorable nook for the children's collection. Courtney Barton, 2940 Ferndale St., shopcourtneybarton.com. Courtney Barton
