By returning to your melodic roots, enlisting some jazzy standards and Puttin' on the Glitz. So it was when the Moores School of Music Society toasted its silver anniversary with a snazzy night of performances by the school's illustrious talents (including thrilling mezzo-soprano Melanie Sonnenberg and the fabulous Blue Static Saxophone Quartet). The Hobby Center was the mise en scène for the gala and concert overseen by chair duo Phyllis Williams and Helen Shaffer Honoree alongside Moores Society prez Kathi Rovere. A Beth Madison seated dinner catered by Culinaire, vocal delights by Mary Griffin and the Ernest Walker Band, a swell aerial act by Darla Davis and the bestowing of awards on the Moores' most munificent ones — Margaret Williams and Beth Madison — completed this high-flying fête. Jazzed: Moores School director David Ashley White, party impresario Paul-David Van Atta who helped choreograph the night, Betty and Jess Tutor, Lora and John Clemmons, Fran Fawcett Peterson, emcee Deborah Duncan and auctioneer Eric Andell, Mary Ann and David McKeithan, Merele Yarborough, Tiffany & Co.'s Mike McClure and wife Ericka, and chair husbands Cornel Williams and Jim Shaffer.
