contributors 18 FILIPPO TATTONI-MARCOZZI PAPERCITY EUROPEAN EDITOR AT LARGE "For this issue, I am reporting on two very different celebrations of love and equality: the wedding of two of my best friends on the most romantic beach near Positano, page 45, and the opening of the Museum of African American History and Culture in the heart of the nation's capital, page 28. Both are milestones on the road to "the bright and glittering daybreak of freedom and justice" (Martin Luther King Jr.)." After the election? Never before have I felt so much involved in an election, even though, as an Italian, I cannot vote … On election night, I shall be in Rome, checking results at the residence of the American am- bassador. I will be holding a return ticket to D.C. Or maybe to Canada? LAUREN WITHROW PHOTOGRAPHER AND DIRECTOR "We shot the fashion feature, A Shin- ing Moment, page 58, in a historic home in Farmersville. I grew up in that town, and I've always had a respect and fascination for structures with historic value." During the election? I didn't answer this question because I feel too negative about it. FRANCINE BALLARD PAPERCITY STYLE EDITOR AT LARGE "In research- ing Kundan jewelry for this month's Rajahs Rock jewelry layout, page 54, I found it fasci- nating that Indian women regard jewelry as a practical part of everyday life. In some cultures, the size of the nose ring implies the amount of wealth a family possesses. And their diamond-encrusted, gold, and silver waist bands are not just hypnotic belly-dance ornaments. They are used to keep check on fat accumulation around their stomachs — my kind of gut check." After the election? I'll be watching re- runs of The Apprentice, bracing for impact, either way. DOUG VOISIN STYLIST "Our location for this month's fashion feature, A Shining Moment, page 58, was absolutely amazing. The house seemed to be alive and had so much history. The looks were picked specifi- cally for each model, and watching them become these characters was beautiful. Once all three were dressed and walked into the room, it created that fantasy moment I live for, and filled the room with the beauty that I die for." And the election? This country allows you to vote and for everybody's voice to be heard. It's incredible. I am from Venezuela, where the elections are not fair, people with voices are being imprisoned, and my family is fighting every day to survive. I will proudly be voting and pushing everyone else to do the same. AL TIDWELL HAIR / MAKEUP ARTIST, MODEL, DIRECTOR "Best part of doing hair for the fashion fea- ture, A Shining Moment, page 58, was working with photog - rapher Lauren Withrow." After the election? I'll breathe a huge sigh of relief and hope Mi- chelle Obama is up to the task in four years! SAMANTHA McCURDY PHOTOGRAPHER "The Mad for Mughal royal jewelry shoot was so much fun! I designed a micro set to show off the jewelry. Usually when Shayna Fontana and I shoot, it's life-size or bigger, but this shoot allowed me to make multiple tiny sculptures. There's a soft place in my heart for anything miniature." After the election? I have a sneaking suspi- cion that there is so much more they're not telling us. By day, I'll be playing the role of stylist with my loves at TenOverSix, making women feel incredible, and by night I'll be continuing my studio practice of drinking wine and painting masterpieces. BROCKE LYONS SHAYNA FONTANA PHOTOGRAPHER "Our original plan for shooting Mad for Mughal, page 66, was to immerse the jewels in a tank with a beautiful Siamese fighting fish, but because of the delicate nature of the jewelry, we were only able to use it as a backdrop. But the good news is that I was able to give my son his very first pet." After the election? I'll certainly be voting, because I believe it's one of the most impor- tant elections in my lifetime.
