22 I 'm looking forward to many things this month. Primarily, as with the rest of the country, I'm eager for the long-awaited conclusion of what is perhaps the most surreal presidential election in history. To put a much needed charming spin on the "I'm With Her vs. Make America Great Again" battle royal, I asked Los Angeles-based artist Donald Robertson to illustrate his take on things, exclusively for PaperCity. It's far more fashionable than anything you've seen on the campaign trail, I promise. As the weather hopefully cools, this month also marks the beginning of the season, when entertaining goes into full gear and we all get to revel in some of our favorite indulgences. I can't help but look forward to one of my favorite dinner parties of the year, a darling Friendsgiving hosted annually by my friends Javier Burkle (a talented home decor stylist) and his realtor partner, Mason McCleskey. These consummate hosts have a way setting the most stylish table, mixing the perfect array of guests, and creating a cozy, candlelit atmosphere in their Highland Park cottage that reminds me each year just how precious it is to make time to gather with good friends. On that note, this issue is dedicated to our most beloved extravagances: Social editor Jane Rozelle chronicles two of our favorite parties, PaperCity's September issue bash hosted at The Joule hotel and the Crystal Charity Ball Ten Best Dressed Fashion Show and Luncheon, for which designer Carolina Herrera came to town. Our European editor at large, Filippo Tattoni-Marcozzi, also hits the party circuit — albeit in Positano, where he jetted to attend the nuptial celebration of interior designer Alvise Orsini and Geoffroy van Raemdonck, Ralph Lauren president for Europe. On the dining scene: Assistant editor Linden Wilson goes inside Harwood district's new Dolce Riviera — the chic spot is simply packed with in-crowders on a nightly basis; and our Houston home design and social editor Anne Lee Phillips reports from Le Coucou, one of New York's best new restaurants from restaurateur Stephen Starr and chef Daniel Rose. (It's worth booking a trip to NYC just for dinner.) In satisfying two of my own favorite luxuries — faraway destinations and precious jewels — I sat down with Jayshree Dalal, to discuss how the India-born, Dallas-based jewelry designer has amassed an exquisite collec- tion of royal Indian jewels. To bring Dalal's museum-quality pieces to life, art director Michelle Aviña enlisted photographer Shayna Fontana and stylist Samantha McCurdy to create a dreamy editorial that's as intriguing in mood as the jewels' remarkable hundred-year-old histories. During a time when the world around us can seem unwieldy and un- settling, I hope this issue encourages you to take pause and appreciate the beautiful, indulgent side of things. After all, there is never a bad time to eat, drink, and be merry. Christina Geyer Dallas Editor in Chief christina@papercitymag.com letter editor STEVEN VISNEAU
