I t's like the first day back to school!" enthused our favorite DJ queen, Lucy Wrubel, as she spun vibrant tracks, filling The Joule hotel's chic, recently spruced-up jewel box of a terrace with boundless energy for one very important September evening. The time had come for us to bid adieu to the broad- sheet format our loyal readers knew so well and to welcome the new perfect-bound face of PaperCity magazine. And, what better way to start anew than by celebrating the September issue with nearly 200 of our closest friends in one of our city's most sought-after venues. We couldn't agree with Wrubel more, as the happening was very much like the first day of school, post-summer hiatus. Party master Todd Fiscus, along with his brilliant Todd Events team and Showtech Productions, worked their magic on The Joule's terrace, setting a sleek scene. A steady flow of guests poured in and out all evening. The first stop for most, naturally, was the bar anchoring the modernist glass cube: Drinks were aplenty, from Concha Y Toro vino to Deep Eddy Vodka cocktails. (Darling reader, the spritzy paloma, made with Austin–based Deep Eddy Ruby Red vodka, is our new go-to party beverage.) Tony Tasset's Eye sculpture, perched prominently across the street, kept a watchful gaze on the comings and goings. And as the sun went down, a flock of model waiters in red-checked aprons stole the show: Those clever people at The Joule surprised us all, enlisting the beauties to stop downstairs at Americano, bringing dozens of pizzas to the terrace for late-night snacking. As a parting gift, our friends at Forty Five Ten presented divine Diptyque candles made especially for and named after the luxurious retailer.
