14 letter editor HUNT SLONEM M arch is arriving with a roar. This issue is traditionally a decoration + art issue, and with the advent of Texas Design Week in the past two years, both March (TXDW Houston) and October (TXDW Dallas) issues have taken on more design import. PaperCity Design Awards, in its 12th year, kicks off the week-long TXDW series of interior designer appearances, talks, salons, product launches, exhibitions, and cocktail events. This month, we have one of the most glittering lineups we've ever assembled, including Jean-Louis Deniot, in from Paris for a salon talk, book signing, and cocktails at The Fayez and Susan Sarofim House, with New Orleans Auction Galleries hosting; and Hutton Wilkinson of Tony Duquette, here from Beverly Hills, as our raconteur and master of ceremonies of the Design Awards, and cocktails, talk, and book signing at David Sutherland. Martina Mondadori Sartogo, founder of the lush Cabana magazine, is in from London for a talk, book signing, and sneak peek at her new Cabana Indo-chic, bohemian table ware at Moxie design emporium. Jamie Drake and Caleb Anderson are in from NYC as Design Awards judges and will present a talk; and the inimitable Bunny Williams is also here as a Design Awards judge, and for a talk and presentation at Design In Bloom at The Houston Design Center. Dean Rhys-Morgan brings to Houston a collection of stunning Jeremiah Goodman illustrations to exhibit and sell, as well as discuss and sign his new book about the great illustrator, hosted by Wells Abbott, Retorra Rugs, and Tribute Goods. Katy Olson, editor in chief of the newly relaunched AD Pro site from Architectural Digest, aimed at those in the design industry, leads a panel at Found home design store, with designers Shaun Smith from New Orleans and Paloma Contreras, who only had to travel a few blocks. There will be plenty of mingling, chatting, cocktailing, and getting to know one another. Get Texas Design Week tickets at texasdesignweek.com. And, if you plan to enter a project in the PaperCity Design Awards — and we certainly hope you do — you have until Wednesday, March 6, at midnight, at designawards. papercitymag.com. Bunny, Jamie, and Caleb are waiting! The Design Awards presentation is Monday, March 25, at The Post Oak Hotel, and winning entries appear in the October PaperCity decoration + art issue, 60,000 circulation. The Bosch Group kicks it all off the Sunday night before Texas Design Week, with a reception with chef Richard Knight, in a private home. All this makes the March TXDW issue important in the design world, which is why we're very happy to have the work of designer Ann Wolf in this issue. This project is a triumph, and I'm sure it didn't come about easily. As Ann says, "You don't have the same perspective when you're doing your own house as when you're doing a client's." Amen. Her work has appeared in Veranda, Traditional Home, House Beautiful, and Flair. With the spate of archival movies (The Favourite being our favorite), creative director Michelle Aviña delved into the psyche of excess and hedonism in fashion, design, and food (see pages 54 through 65). And as editor Christina Geyer says, the crown weighs heavy. Lastly, Anne Lee Phillips and Catherine D. Anspon take a spin through Round Top to round up all the news, gossip, intrigue (there's finally a liquor store!), and treasures, just in time for the Round Top Spring Antiques Shows. Happy hunting. Hope to see you at Texas Design Week Houston! Holly Moore Editor in Chief holly@papercitymag.com
