VIP OPENING DAY OF KIPS BAY I t was that time of year when Dallas' divine design community ( t h e c r e a t i v e s t h e m s e l v e s a n d legions of interior- loving fans) comes together for the unveiling of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas. The big ticket is for VIP opening day, when the imposing show house doors are thrown open for first time. Due to issues with some of the neighbors of the previous year's home, more processes were put in place so that visits to this year's Show House were seamless. Guests arrived at the Northaven United Methodist Church parking lot at their chosen time slot and were shuttled over. Taking a cue from The Rolling Stones lyric "I want it painted black," the formerly mustard-colored 1940s home in Old Preston Hollow's Sunnybrook Estates was swathed in deep, mysterious noir. The property featured a five-bedroom house with four living areas, pool, three-car garage, and numerous outdoor living spaces on 1.7 acres. After congratulating Nazira Handal, Kips Bay director of special events and corporate partnerships, I stood in the circular driveway and plotted my strategy for viewing room after glorious room, as well as a few niches and grand dressing spaces, created by 22 teams and layered with incredible details and finishes. Others making mental notes of design ideas that afternoon included Merry Vose, Ann Hobson, Doniphan Moore (who designed a space in the 2020 Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas), Lloyd Princeton, Zoe Bonnette, Lance Scott (an alum of the 2022 Dallas show house), Jessica Nowitzki, Dana Arnold, Emma and Hector Finch, Michelle Garcia, Julia Duke, Laura Lee Clark and John Falconer, Kara Marmion, Jane Scott Hodges, Zara Taitt, Alex Lerman, Chris LaVigne, Bill Stark, Georgina Hartland, Kristi Kennimer, Julie Ehrman, and Jase Jones.
