"D on't spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door." Those words from Coco Chanel herself are especially appropriate, given that walls were knocked down and grand new doors are about to open for the unveiling this month of the new two-story Chanel boutique in Highland Park Village. The house's go-to architect is Peter Marino, the leather-clad visionary with a cult-like following. We're told the super-luxe residential-inspired boutique will be an homage to Gabrielle Chanel's historic apartment at the Ritz in Paris. As you peruse the latest offerings in fashion, handbags, accessories, watches, fine jewelry, fragrance, and beauty, you'll be amongst beautiful custom woven fabrics and wall finishes with a vibrant fresh color palette of bright pinks, golds, and yellows (we imagine it's what heaven must look like), as well as custom chandeliers created by maison d'art Goossens and furnishings such as a custom gold Ingrid Donat coffee table and pair of Augusto Bozzi Minoletta chairs upholstered in black leather. There's an enviable selection of artworks (curated by maestro Marino) within the five ground floor salons and four second-floor salons, including an expansive shoe area. There's a Marino-designed Gold Scarab low commode at the base of the stairs and a commissioned Andrei Molodkin acrylic block filled with oil, titled Chic, among other works. The new boutique opens with the Spring Summer 2024 collection in stock — an homage to the gardens of the Villa Noailles, a storied estate that was designed in 1923 by architect Robert Mallet-Stevens. The dressing gowns in multicolored, black, or pink tweed; suits in neoprene; and dresses and trousers in lace are adorned with floral motifs that were inspired by the villa's outdoor spaces, from its cubist checkered gardens to its sunken flower beds.
