Candice Cowin D rake is one of the music industry's living icons — an artist whose singular name conveys it all. With five Grammys and 55 Grammy nominations, the Internet- busting, outspoken rapper is often a hot topic. Rumors flew this fall about his acquisition of a prime piece of Washington County ranch property near Round Top, our favorite antiques-and-design destination. We emailed a realtor in the know for deets — Tonya Currie, Lifestyle Ranch & Home Group, Compass. Currie, who served as listing agent, confirmed the deal. On October 20, 2023, Drake closed for $15 million on The Inn at Dos Brisas in Chappell Hill, a celebrated retreat previously owned by Jennifer and Doug Bosch. PaperCity society editor Shelby Hodge wrote about the Relais & Châteaux property, which at its height was the only Forbes five-star restaurant in all of Texas. A video posted to Drake's Instagram (champagnepapi) shows him checking out his new ranch in his whip (golf cart for this outing); the rapper says, "We've done gone country on you all." Stay tuned. Maybe Drake will get jiggy at Festival Hill. Catherine D. It's a solo for one of Texas' most formidable landscape painters, a retired University of Houston art professor who has called Fayette County home since he and his late wife, Louise, moved there more than 35 years ago. Round Top and the surrounding countryside's gently rolling terrain and bucolic fields are his version of Monet's haystacks; he's captured them throughout the seasons, at many times of day. Turning 89 this year, Anzalone is arguably at the height of his powers, letting his pigment dissolve into a skein of light and color upon canvas. For more than half a century, he was represented by blue-chip American art dealer Meredith Long & Company, where his annual Houston exhibitions were met with acclaim and brisk sales. Now Anzalone is exclusively represented by Joan and Jerry Herring's Red & White Gallery. Opening Saturday, March 2, artist reception, 4 to 7 pm, at Red & White Gallery, 102 W.
