On A Silver Platter The Dallas Museum of Art sets a glorious gala dinner. The Sewell sterling assemblage was first sparked in Chairman 1987, when the DMA received a significant Peggy Sewell gift of pieces from the Hoblitzelle foundation and celebrated said donation with its firstever Silver Supper. Typically, these rarefied table-toppers are now only seen through glass display cases within the DMA's galleries. But each year, during the annual Silver Supper benefitting the DMA's Decorative Arts Acquisition Endowment Fund, the treasures are brought out and artfully arranged as decor. This year's highly refined 20th Anniversary dinner chaired by Peggy Sewell was no exception: Magnificent tea sets, tureens, platters and compotes were staged in the center of each dining table arranged inside the DMA's Barrel Vault. There's more to this evening, though, than historical decor. This is one of those rare, intimate affairs when the social guard mixes with some of the DMA's most storied supporters.
