INSIDE The Heads of ... MAX ANDERSON Three favorite contemporary artists? Some one million Americans declare themselves to be artists on their tax returns. I'm not keen on alienating the other 999,997. What type of art are you amassing these days? For the DMA, we will be focused on building on strengths in European, American, Asian, African, Decorative Arts and Design, and augmenting contemporary art holdings from Europe, the U.S. and Asia with works from Latin and South America. I'm also interested in Islamic art, self-taught African American art, and MAXWELL & JACQUELINE ANDERSON . Your uniform? I wear suits and ties because it's easier than improvising with business casual, an expression that flummoxes me. Items in your attaché? Dell Inspiron, iPad, iPhone charger, keys, pens, magnifying glass, white gloves, hot pepper flakes. PORTRAIT JUSTIN CLEMONS What do you collect? Cuff links for me, jewelry for Jacqueline and souvenirs for our daughter when on trips. Our son has outgrown interest in tchotchkes. BY BROOKE HORTENSTINE JACQUELINE ANDERSON In your handbag? If I am organized, my driver's license, a fresh-pressed juice and some vegan snacks. The labels on your back? I am always excited about discovering new designers but love my staple pieces by Norma Kamali, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, Andre Courrèges and H&M. Most unexpected fashion staple in your closet? Adidas Superstars. Favorite makeup item? YSL lipgloss. Three shops in Dallas you're mad about? Neiman Marcus has always felt like the mother ship I was dropped off on this Earth from; Forty Five Ten exceeds its fabulous reputation; and there seems to be a strong gravitational pull towards NorthPark Center. Style muse? Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, Anita Ekberg, Queen Elizabeth I, Nefertiti and Cleopatra The word you'd best use to describe yourself? Unpredictable. Books on your bedside table? I just read Bossypants by Tina Fey and laughed until I cried. Next up is The Quality Instinct by Maxwell L. Anderson. Where do you purchase your suits? When next I do, Neiman Marcus, of course. Three small luxuries you wouldn't want to do without? Taking and picking up my kids from school, fashion and my Vitamix. Three shops in Dallas you frequent? We just arrived, so 'frequent' would be overstating it. I love scouring hardware stores for tools I may need when we build our house. Three favorite hotels? The Taj Tashi in Bhutan, Acacia Cliffs Lodge in New Zealand and Hotel St. Cecilia in Austin. The word you'd best use to describe yourself ? Insatiable. Signature drink? Organic Avenue's Green Love juice. Books on your bedside table? Michael Axworthy's Iran: Empire of the Mind. Three favorite restaurants in Dallas? V-Spot Cafe, Dive Coastal Cuisine, Spiral Diner. What would surprise people most about you? How much I love splitting a face cord of firewood. Favorite architectural designs? The Lotus Temple in Delhi and the Atomium in Brussels. Three small luxuries you wouldn't want to do without? Two-cup stovetop Moka Express, bittersweet chocolate and my brand-spanking-new Dallas North Tollway tag. Your home interiors … describe your style. Never too serious, always glamorous and aspiring to be minimal. Favorite vacation spot? The Bay of Naples, ideally from a cutter-rigged sloop. Impact you hope to make on the city of Dallas? It's too soon to tell, as I'm still trying to master the carpool line at Lamplighter … but I have big plans and promise to keep you posted. Signature drink? Laphroaig, neat. Three favorite restaurants in Dallas? We've not been to many more than three, and loved them all: Urban Taco, The Mint Asian Fusion Cafe and, of course, In-N-Out Burger. One favorite architectural moment in Dallas? The Arts District is a feast for the eye. And I am eager to see the Trinity River Corridor Project unfold. Favorite architect and project? The Pantheon in Rome by Apollodorus of Damascus. Piece of furniture you covet? Hella Jongerius' Polder sofa. What impact do you hope to make on the DMA? I want it to be the nation's most coveted art museum to work in because of its creativity, embrace of risk and the depth of experience offered our public. What impact do you hope to make on the city of Dallas? I'd like to help the Arts District become a global force for our city. the new Eugene McDermott Director of the Dallas Museum of Art.
