18 letter editor HUNT SLONEM S eptember signifies a re-entering of the fall season (re-entrée, as it's eloquently termed in Europe) — it's back to work with renewed vigor and a recharged soul, back to school, or re-entering the social stratosphere. The doldrums and the high 90s are over — or soon will be. On our September calendar: Legacy Cocktail Party on Wednesday, September 12, has a slew of fun chairmen — Shannon Hall, Melissa Mithoff, Kathryn Murphy, Elizabeth Petersen, Marcus Sloan, and Sheridan Williams — and honors the fabulous Richard Flowers. What a way to kick off the season! It's a beautiful night with Fabergé at Houston Museum of Natural Science, on Thursday, September 13, when Fabergé expert Dr. Géza von Habsburg discusses the fabled jewel house of the tsars. Wednesday, September 26, put on your cultural hat: Plácido Domingo and Ana María Martínez perform, celebrating Houston Grand Opera's return to the Wortham Center. Margaret Alkek Williams chairs the night — what would we do without Margaret. On Thursday, September 27, Mecox, PaperCity, and Courtney and Christopher Sarofim, Lindsay and Rand Holstead, and Lisa and Will Mathis fête designer Amanda Lindroth, who lives between Lyford Cay and Palm Beach, and designs the most elegant British Colonial, Bahamian interiors you will ever see. She'll sign her beautiful new book, Island Hopping. Then on Saturday, September 29, the Progressive Forum's Randall Morton interviews former U.S. Senator, Secretary of State and presidential candidate John Kerry about his memoir Every Day Is Extra, at Congregation Emanu El. Of course, you can flip to pages 132 through 144 and see everywhere you need to be this fall in PaperCity's Fall Social Calendar. September is also the Round Top fall antiques shows, so jump in an SUV (you'll need space to haul back your finds) and drive to Round Top and Fayetteville for the day or the week. See all the Round Top news on pages 110 through 131. Holly Moore Editor in Chief holly@papercitymag.com
