32 WHITE TIE TALES SHELBY HODGE GOES GLAM. PHOTOGRAPHY JENNY ANTILL CLIFTON, PRISCILLA DICKSON, WILSON PARISH. C hampagne bubbling in coupe glasses — how apropos for the Old Hollywood theme of this year's Houston Grand Opera Ball. On this night of white-tie attire and voluminous ball gowns, a merry throng walked the red carpet at the HGO Bel Canto Club, aka The Post Oak Hotel, and found themselves in a smashing supper-club setting. The 14-foot-tall gilded palm trees, vast dance floor, and stage framed by white calla lilies were the vision of ball chairs Drs. Liz Grimm and Jack Roth, as interpreted by Richard Flowers and The Events Company. Which part of the evening's entertainment was the highlight? It was all a matter of taste — Rock and Roll Hall of Famer David Lee Roth or the stunning Astaire Dances presented by Los Angeles-based American Contemporary Ballet. Some would contend, however, that the real highlight was the highly charged after-party, chaired by Drs. Ishwaria and Vivek Subbiah, that won the night. THE WALK OF STARS: Anne and Albert Chao, Rini and Edward Zeigler, Cynthia and Tony Petrello, Lynn Wyatt, Whitney and Jim Crane, John and Becca Cason Thrash, Celina Hellmund, Dr. Katherine Roth and Lincoln Jones, Kevin Black and Tony Bradfield, Laura and Brad McWilliams, and HGO honchos Patrick Summers and Perryn Leech.
