36 Triptych VERY VIPS: Lynn Wyatt, Nancy Kinder, Clare Glassell, Nancy and Butch Abendshein with son Andrew Abendshein, Esma Genç, Rania Daniel, Phoebe Tudor, Sima Ladjevardian, Ann Trammell, Kelley Trammell, Anne and Charles Duncan, Lisa and Barron Wallace, Cyvia Wolff, Gail and Louis Adler, the Craft Center's Sara and Bill Morgan, Kelli and Eddy Blanton, Lynne and Joe Hudson, Kirby and Scott McCool, Susan and Lenoir Josey, Joanna and Rusty Wortham, Jeanie Kilroy Wilson and Wally Wilson, Susanne and Bill Pritchard, and architect Chris McVoy from Steven Holl's office. T he following night, BBVA Compass underwrote the cocktail bash for the big reveal to art- community insiders. The place to be was clearly the BBVA Compass Roof Garden, where most held court after listening to welcoming remarks by BBVA Compass Houston CEO Mark Montgomery and Reymundo Ocañas, who heads corporate responsibility and serves as president of the BBVA Compass Foundation. ARCHITECTURAL ADMIRERS: T enenbaum Jewelers' Tony Bradfield and Kevin Black; The Menil Collection's Rebecca Rabinow and husband Matthew Ringel; Bettie Cartwright; Bill Baldwin and Fady Armanious; Elisabeth and Brian McCabe; Melissa and Albert Grobmyer; Cindy and Larry Burns; Carmen and Dale Lockett; Dorene and Frank Herzog; historian and author Dorothy Knox Houghton; gallerists Hilary Hunt and Arturo Palacios, and Maria Inés Sicardi and Carlos Bacino; Jean Mintz; Bridget and Patrick Wade; and Kelly and Nick Silvers. T he week wrapped with 90-35-1 — which sounds like the combination for cracking a safe but was in fact the title of the Glassell School of Art Benefit. The numerology honored three milestones: 90 years of prestigious arts education, 35 years of the museum's storied Core Program, and the school's first year in the new Holl-designed landmark. Presiding were chairs Leslie and Brad Bucher and Marli Andrade and Alfred Glassell III alongside Glassell School director (and eminent sculptor) Joe Havel. City Kitchen devised the dinner, which was served in a minimalist tent designed by Richard Flowers of The Events Company. Service started a tad late, due to the sublime sunset view from the BBVA Compass Roof Garden that few guests wanted to abandon. Sotheby's Augie Uribe, in from NYC, commanded the live auction. Brisk bidding went down for nine lots culled from Core Program alums, served up by Paddle8. Top live lots were Shahzia Sikander's video; Leandro Erlich's mixed media, which drew the night's highest bid of $70,000; and Trenton Doyle Hancock's edgy Fucht Law collage. A record-breaking $669,000 was raised from live and silent auctions paired with ticket sales, making the new Glassell's debut an auspicious and green evening, indeed. SOCIAL CANVAS: Longtime Glassell and MFAH supporters Claire and Doug Ankenman, Judy and Scott Nyquist, Mary Cullen, Linda and Walter McReynolds, Penelope and Lester Marks, Victoria and Marshal Lightman, Heidi and David Gerger (who told us "when your name is on the building, you have to show up"), Leigh and Reggie Smith, Jereann Chaney and daughter Holland, Mary and Bernie Arocha, Betty and Stephen Newton, Melanie Lawson and John Guess Jr., Cullen Geiselman, Marcy and Tom Wessel, Greg Fourticq Jr. and John Cone, and Courtney and Christopher Sarofim; gallerists Martha Long with then fiancé/now husband Sean Wade, Betty Moody with curator Clint Willour; Erin Dorn of McClain Gallery, Hiram Butler, Josh Pazda, Barbara Davis, Enrique Guerrero, Deborah Colton, and judicial candidate Meg Poissant; Sotheby's Aliyya Stude and husband Herman Stude; and artists including past Core Fellows Sharon Engelstein and Aaron Parazette, Trenton Doyle Hancock with artist wife JooYoung Choi, Patrick Phipps and wife photog Claire Chauvin, Christy Karll McWhorter, Mark Ponder, Ken Mazzu, and Alexandra Kaldis Brummett and James Walter Brummett.
