FOUR MILLION REASONS SMILE Shelby Hodge gets out her calculator. Photography by Joe Vela. P hilanthropists and masters of surprise Sue and Lester Smith pulled another bunny out of their hat at the Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Services gala where they pledged not only a million-dollar gift but also a matching million-dollar challenge. Few among the 900 gathered at the Hilton Americas-Houston expected the contribu- tion, which brought gala honorees Renee and Alan Helfman to tears. That gift and the largesse of others in the ballroom, totaling more than $4 million, met a profound need, as the ground fl oor of the long-term care facility was severely damaged by Hurricane Harvey fl ood waters. Chairing the celebratory 75th anniversary of the center were Sandy Rubin and Judy and Michael Feinstein.
