39 I bumped into Martin at the Dallas Museum of Art's Art in Bloom luncheon just two days later and marveled, "Why aren't you in bed?" Without skipping a beat, she replied, "Because I'm here to support friends." That is what these events are about. Supporting friends. Supporting community. And, in the case of Jewel Charity Ball, supporting children. The evening was a celebration of the Angel donors who help the patients at Cook Children's Medical Center. Since the fi rst ball in 1954, the organization has raised more than $73 million . Jewel Charity Ball is also distinctly old school, and guests know that black-tie rules strictly apply. Boys were dapper, channeling their inner 007 in tailored tuxedos. Girls were spotted in trailing gowns by Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta, most notably Christy Dunaway Smith in a fl owy caftan. Michelle Marlow, Jewel Charity's 2021 chair, caught my eye in a teal Zac Posen sheath that accentuated her always sparkling eyes. One of my Fort Worth Bomb girls, Olivia Kearney, delivered a shorter version of glamour with a voluminous Tish Cox frock. Becky Bowen, who had come over from Dallas on the arm of her dashing husband, Kyle, wore the most showstopping color of the night: a fuchsia number by Rubin Singer. Two others who made my list of swans were Marisa Selkirk, in a stunning white-and-red fl oral gown by Johanna Ortiz, and Melissa Mehall, in a Michael Kors Collection gown with featherlike fringe at the neckline and hem. SWANNING AND AIR-KISSING: Beth and Craig Collins, Sasha and Ed Bass, Paul Dorman, Christopher Wood, Evelyn and Rick Merrell, Virginia Clay, Heather and Ryan Senter, Cheryl and Jerry Conatser, and Carole and James Dunaway. Jolie & Kerron James Olivia & Jeff Kearney Kelly Dillard Richard & Meri McBride, Cynthia & Bob MacDonald the case of Jewel Charity Ball, supporting children.
