W ith Laura Ashley as one of her biggest inspirations (raise your hand if your closet was once filled with the designer's Edwardian-style frocks), it's no surprise that Caitlin Wilson loves a good floral print. "Floral patterns can be fresh and nostalgic, exotic and traditional, colorful or neutral," she says. The interior and textile designer launched her brand in 2007 and opened her bright and airy Dallas storefront, Caitlin Wilson Design, on North Henderson in 2017. Her style is polished and feminine, and in her shop, pretty is at the forefront with pillows, throws, wallpaper, and rugs in fresh pastel palettes, as well as dreamy furniture and lighting. Last year, she also launched Cait Kids, a sweet collection of bedding, art, pillows, rugs, and more for littles. Wilson discovered her love for interiors as a college student living in France. "I began collecting textiles from nearly every shop between Paris and Nice," she says. "I knew then that I would be a designer." Why Dallas for your home base. After growing up on the West Coast and spending several years abroad while my husband was in international banking, we began looking for a great place to raise our family and base our business. We fell in love with the small- town feel of the Park Cities. We opened our storefront after recognizing that our online customer base was already very strong here, so it felt like that "If you build it, they will come" moment. Your aesthetic. My style is purely pretty. You can usually expect to see French- and English-inspired furniture, colorful chic rugs and a soft touch of gorgeous pillows — plaids, checks and always florals. Product design process. We design our products in Dallas, and they're made all over the world. It starts in the studio with color palette and is brought to life with hand painted artwork and/or graphics created by our talented design team. Color and pattern are usually the starting point; and finding a theme or collection- inspired hero piece. A design project you've done that you want to live in yourself. I designed a penthouse at the Ritz- Carlton Grand Cayman in blushes and soft blues, incorporating the beautiful ocean colors into the draperies and textiles. The way it blended into the ocean and sunset views was heavenly. How being a mother (of five!) influences your work. I try to teach my children to be careful and respectful of furniture, so they never feel like a sofa should be stepped or colored on. But kids are kids. I like wipeable materials, and bistro chairs are wonderful in the kitchen. A colorful rug can be your best friend to hide spills and dirt. Five design items you're obsessed with.
