B egin your trek with Richard Prince at The Karpidas Collection, an occasion marking the Pictures Generation artist's first major exhibition in Texas. Spanning the 1980s Marlboro Man "Cowboys" to today's "New Portraits" that dialogue with Instagram feeds of influencer and celeb types (along with the artist's cheeky comments), the Karpidas retrospective — organized in collaboration with the artist — highlights the brilliance of this king of the appropriated image (through January 29). Another master of lens culture is highlighted at PDNB Gallery, where Beaumont-based Keith Carter makes an argument for the beauty of place. The Lamar University professor's latest works, black-and-white images informed by the mysticism of the bayou-enshrouded land of his Southeast Texas home, are highlighted in "Ghostlight." The book of the same name, from University of Texas Press, will be available for signing at opening night Saturday, November 19, 5 to 8 pm (through February 11). Speaking of icons whose work speaks of the strength and primacy of nature, Upstate New York-based painter Karen Gunderson returns to Erin Cluley Gallery following her well-regarded showing there this past spring. Amon Carter curator Maggie Adler converses with the artist Thursday, November 17, 5:30 pm (exhibition through December 23). Then make tracks to the gallery's edgy sister space Cluley Projects (2123 Sylvan Avenue), where assistant director Krista Chalkley makes her curatorial debut with "Three Dollar Bill," a commentary on queerness. The exhibition pairs mid-career provocateurs/ installationists Chuck & George with rising performative talent Colton White. The duo will craft an extravagant installation billed as The Velvetorium, which bears velvet- accented sculpture and portraiture. White's work melds naturally with this opulence; their central creation, Venus in Leo, features a six-foot box encased in white patent leather lined with live flowers and their own face projected in an endless video loop (through December 3). Augustus Owen's Peter Augustus, relocating from Fair Park to Design District digs at 2268 Monitor Street, Unit C. Coming soon is a riotous exploration of Pop abstraction/ figuration with the work of Japanese painter Hiroaki Onuma (Act I, November 19 – December 17; Act II, January 7 – 21). Finally, Ro2 Art unveils an impressive new space in West Dallas' Tin District (2606 Bataan Street) that promises to be a game changer for gallerist Jordan Roth. At press time, a mid-November opening is planned for painter Yuni Lee, paired with a roundup of recent works by artists in the Ro2 stable. Stay tuned. (The gallery's location in the Cedars, 1501 S.
