Provenance I nterior designer Cat Carothers' new design studio, The Selby House, specializes in impeccably restored, collectible 20th-century furniture. The gallery-like space near the Dallas Design District is styled with authentic furnishings from Vladimir Kagan, Pierre Paulin, Børge Mogensen, Eero Saarinen, and Adrian Pearsall. "Each piece has history, a story. I love adding to those stories by giving them new life," Carothers says. The Kansas City native honed her eye for vintage furniture and objects at the New York School of Interior Design where she received her MFA. She and her husband, a video technology consultant, moved to Dallas in 2020 where their new house in University Park offered up plenty of space — soon it was brimming with 20th- century design, all in need of restoration, so Carothers developed a network of local specialty upholsterers, refinishers, and other artisans. Opening The Selby House to showcase her one-of-a-kind gems was the natural next step. The Selby House, by appointment only, 2402 Irving Blvd., theselbyhouse.com. Rebecca Sherman The Power of A mong the contemporary talents creating in ceramics, former Texas artist Anthony Sonnenberg ranks as one of the kings. In Sonnenberg's hands, the once crafty field of clay is transformed into whorls and swirls of high Rococo drama. This fall, he returns to longtime Dallas dealer Conduit Gallery in one of the must-see shows of the season. Now residing in Fayetteville, Arkansas, he is one of the most watched artists working in the field of porcelain, fresh from recent group shows in Paris and at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. At Conduit, Sonnenberg unveils "Beauty Parlor," embedded with recycled tchotchkes and enrobed in glaze. Making its Texas debut is the artist's series of necklaces and a bangle that speak of adornment while recycling antique elements ranging from carved ivory and bone scrimshaw to cloisonné beads and an ancient Roman coin depicting Emperor Constantine.
