Seaborn Sterling PAPERCITY PROMOTION Antiques W ith some of the best design resources and antiques shops in the country located in our backyard, it's no surprise that exquisite antiques decorate many Dallas homes. For more than 15 years, Seaborn Sterling Antiques (SSA) has sourced exceptional British, European, Mexican, and South American antiques from the 17th through the 19th centuries — from rare art, architectural embellishments, exquisite furniture and lighting to a wide range of accessories. Seaborn Sterling Antiques was founded by Katherine Sterling and her late mother (a Seaborn), who shared a passion for antiques and the hunt and spent countless hours studying and searching throughout England, Europe, and Asia. Sterling studied history in college, and as she began collecting her own furnishings and art, she was drawn to antiques with stories and that provided quality, warmth and a sense of history. Meet "I want SSA to have diverse, unique pieces with history and provenance I can pass on to my designer clientele and their customers," Sterling says. "I select items for the shops that I'm enthusiastic about, whether they're small accessories or major furnishings and art. This enthusiasm grows as time goes on. The more I learn, the more I can pass on to my clientele to help them with their design decisions." Sterling has a passion for 17th- through 18th-century Italian furniture, particularly when the original paint has survived. She's also drawn to the elegant wood and straightforward design of English Georgian and Regency periods, as well as the craftsmanship of French cabinetmakers. After spending time in Santa Fe over the years, Sterling developed another passion – this time for the rustic beauty and history of the Spanish Colonial style of furniture, art and accessories so prevalent in the Southwest and Mexico. As a result of her increased knowledge and interest, Sterling said, "I have incorporated Spanish Colonial items into my shops, alongside our traditional emphasis on European and Asian pieces." Sterling and her operations manager, Nichole Evans, invest in long-term relationships, focusing on response time, guiding customers through the selection and buying process, helping them acquire the perfect antique for projects.
