T he fall season is upon us, with a multitude of social fêtes to attend. September begins with a spellbinding and dangerous performance of Ben Stevenson's Dracula from the Texas Ballet Theater at the Winspear Opera House, acoustically enhanced by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (for more special events, see our Social Datebook on page 10). PaperCity is excited to partner with the Texas Ballet Theater as its media sponsor for the next year — with much to be excited about in this season's debut performance. This month, the Dallas Contemporary debuts its fall exhibitions, a worldly explosion from September 19 through December 21: Bani Abidi (Pakistan), Nadia Kaabi-Linke (Tunisia), Adriana Varejão (Brazil), Jason Willaford (Texas) and Synchrodogs (Ukraine; read "Surreal and Edgy Synchrodogs" on page 20 in this issue). Every year, we feature our special section for Neiman Marcus and The Crystal Charity Ball Ten Best Dressed Women of Dallas. This month we also profile "Those Hutchinson Girls," the marketing team for the Dallas Design District, aka owner Bill Hutchinson's daughters. I'm excited to share that the talented Patricia Mora — a regular PaperCity contributor over the last year — has joined the Dallas team as our features editor; read her insights into art aficionados Joan Davidow and Capera Ryan in "The New Cultural Landscape." Major celebrations take place this fall at NorthPark Center for its 50- year anniversary. NorthPark50: Fifty Years of Giving, which kicked off in August, continues through the end of October, with NorthPark Center giving back to local nonprofits over 50 days. Also this month, join NPC for North Texas Giving Day September 17, 11 am to 2 pm, and be inspired to give back to the community with hands-on charitable activities and live performances. On that note, let the season begin with social, charitable and, of course, always stylish shenanigans. C U LT U R E . G O S S I P. RHIANNON LEE S eptember is off to an impressive start! With fall events lining up, you certainly won't need an excuse to shop. Lucky for us, a number of stores open in the coming months: AG and The Frye Company at NorthPark Center; Dior Beauty, Céline and the expanded Hermès at Highland Park Village; and Le Creuset and a larger Zara at Galleria Dallas. Stanley Korshak, shrouded in construction barriers all summer during its exterior renovations, will reveal a new facelift, along with the Rosewood Crescent Hotel, just in time for fall festivities. Amid shopping and soirées, you'll want to visit the Meadows Museum during its 50th anniversary and view the blockbuster exhibit "Treasures from the House of Alba: 500 Years of Art and Collecting" with a public opening Friday, September 11. More than 100 works are on loan from the House of Alba, illustrious Spanish nobility, culled from three palaces in Madrid, Seville and Salamanca and displayed in Dallas on their first American voyage. See what these discerning royals collected since the dynasty began around 1450, including the mysterious Goya portrait of the 13th Duchess of Alba, alongside a trove of Christopher Columbus documents, including the explorer's logbook from his discovery of the New World. More details in our Meadows Museum insert and exclusive preview in this issue. Up for a quick jaunt down south? PaperCity is proud to again be a media sponsor of the Texas Contemporary Art Fair, now in its fifth edition, which takes place October 1 through 4 in Houston. Don't miss the exciting VIP experiences this year: behind- the-scenes tours of "Mark Rothko: A Retrospective" at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; a brunch at Rothko Chapel; and events with The Menil Collection. Visit txcontemporary.com to get VIP passes. It's always an exciting time as the summer haze lifts and sets us all in motion. Welcome back! Cheeky artist Donald Robertson (aka @drawbertson, who was nominated for CFDA's Instagrammer of the Year honors) will be on hand to sign his new children's book, Mitford at the Fashion Zoo ($17.99); illustrations from its pages decorate a tote, wallet and travel case, to be sold exclusively at Forty Five Ten (Colette in Paris is the only other boutique on the planet to carry the collection). For Forty Five Ten's fall Chic Dallas Ladies campaign, Robertson's illustrations of Dallas' most stylish will emblazon shopping totes and be exhibited in the T Room later this month — totes amaze! Also at the boutique that afternoon is beauty maven Linda Rodin, who debuted her Rodin Olio Lusso face oil in 2007 to much fanfare. Of the two cult- status entrepreneurs, Forty Five Ten co-owner Brian Bolke says, "I think they are kindred spirits that have found each other. On my many meetings with Donald over the last year, I simply fell in love with him. I'm sure Linda did too, and certainly vice-versa."
