All four chic nights benefit Gracie Cavnar's Recipe for Success Foundation, which is dedicated to combating childhood obesity. (Next up is cocktails and dinner at Neiman Marcus next March.) But on this kickoff night for the series, Fiscus rolled his pink Todd Events–emblazoned truck south on I-45 from Dallas to Houston, loaded with hundreds of tangerine roses, cabana-striped curtains and tenting, lounging sofas and carpets, and urns of Jelly Belly jelly beans to turn Salon Ceron into a South Beach party haven. Hair-wash bowls became coolers to ice the wines, and Simon Gentry from The Photobooth on Montrose set up an instant photo studio. DJ extraordinaire Lucy Wrubel, who spins every hot gala in Dallas, also made the trek to Houston and bounced and spun on her two-person lighted dance floor in McQueen stilettos. Recipe for Success founder Gracie Cavnar and husband/ author Bob Cavnar greeted Phoebe Tudor, Dominique Sachse and Nick Florescu, Kelli and Martin Fein, Mark Sullivan, David Brown, Leisa Holland-Nelson, Yvonne Cormier, Terry Zmyslo, Kate Stukenberg, George Lancaster, Mary Beth Aspromonte, Barbara Davis, Jeff Shell, Candice and Lonnie Schiller, Karen and Mike Mayell, and Terrie Hogan Turner. Dance devotees: Carolyn Farb (who received the Spirit of Dance Award), Jonathon Glus and Alton LaDay, Louis Skidmore, Rusty Arena, Samantha and David Kennedy, Pily Simon, David Graeve, and Eloise Frischkorn. Next, Asia Society Texas Center hosted part of the multifaceted Houston Fine Art Fair kickoff with a panel discussion featuring contemporary talent Mel Chin (whose macabre and playful spider was part of the center's introductory programming), Houston collector Jereann Chaney, and moderator Kim Davenport of Rice University Gallery. What ensued was a multidimensional discussion on the consumption of contemporary Asian-American art and its social implications. Enjoying the dialogue: Asia Society director Martha Blackwelder, Clint Willour, Betty Moody, Nancy Allen, Janet Hobby, Anna and Thomas Au, Melissa Grobmyer, Divya and Chris Brown, and Nancy Negley.
