Partners Use Star Power to Celebrate Nurses The fabulous Naomi Judd puts on quite a show, and she didn't disappoint at the UT Partners Luncheon, which honored "Generations of Nurses." Judd — who happens to be a former registered nurse herself — staged a "reality show" detailing her own struggles with illness and how she coped using her "Eight Characteristics of a Survivor." Next, the luncheon honored Partners board members who are current or former nurses, and board chair Judi McGee introduced the honorary chairs: Louise Cooley, Susan Cooley, and Mary Plumb Senkel (aka wife, daughter and granddaughter, respectively, of pioneering heart surgeon Dr. Denton Cooley — all nurses themselves). Proceeds benefitted UTHealth School of Nursing. Sensational supporters: Linda McReynolds, Sheridan Williams, dean of the UT School of Nursing Patricia Starck, Jayne Kendall, and Soraya McClelland. The Boutique Bazaar kicked off with 24 shopping spots showing fab wares for fall. Next up was the runway show including covetable looks from Tootsies, À Bientôt and BB1 Classic presented by fashion producer Todd Ramos. Attention turned to the real reason for this fashion-filled day: celebrating the opening of The Woman's Hospital's new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, in conjunction with March of Dimes. New mom Lillian Mejia spoke on behalf of the new unit, which saved the life of her extremely premature baby and supported her along the way. Proceeds from the event went directly to the NICU Family Support Program. Ready for fall: event chair CEO of TWH Linda Russell and lunch chair March of Dimes' Rishma Mohamed, emcee Rachel McNeill, Darcie Champagne Wells, Toni Walton, and Brandi Brown. Chairman Kari Gonzales had a special treat: keynote speaker former Houston Oilers quarterback Cody Carlson. The Center's mission — assisting those with developmental disabilities — is especially personal for Carlson, because his son, Isaac, has disabilities resulting from a premature birth. Inspired supporters: board chairman David Baldwin, PaperCity's Monica Bailey Bickers, Elizabeth DeLuca, Kim Moody, and John Dagley. Small Steps Nurturing Center is happy to pitch in, and hosted a Nurture & Nourish luncheon at Houston Country Club. Co-chairs and fellow mothers Lesli Giannukos, Hollis Grace, Elizabeth Pagan, Angie Reckling, Carolyn Tanner, and Christine Williams introduced guest speaker Dr. Wendy Mogel, best-selling author of The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and expert on all things parental. Happily enlightened: Ashley and Walter Weathers, executive director Greg Stirman, board chair Fred Brazelton, Catherine Masterson, Amy Anton, Laurie Schaub, and Heather Mitchell.
