14 letter editor HUNT SLONEM T here are many things that we are all, of course, most thankful for: health, family, semi-world peace. But sometimes it's the little things that spark joy when we need it most. I'm thankful: • For the slightest bit of a rumor that La Goulue restaurant may open in Houston. • For Texas Design Week Dallas, November 1 through 3 — a mini-version of Houston's, but we are happy to have Bobby McAlpine, Vicente Wolf, Alexa Hampton, and Carl Dellatore join us for book signings, cocktails, and panel discussions. • That this is the year for the biennial Design Weekend in Lyford at the dreamy Lyford Club. • That after two years, we were able to photograph Judge Roy Hofheinz's Celestial Suite in the former Astrodome Hotel (now Crowne Plaza). Thank you, Jerry Mathers, VP of operations and keeper of the keys to the Suite. • That someone invented magnetic eyelashes. Mine should arrive any day. • For the Junior League Thanksgiving dinner, from turkey to cranberry relish, packed and to go! Pick-up is Wednesday before. • The December 2 Menil 30th Anniversary Ball, because it channels the Surrealists and Max Ernst. Did I say Surrealists! • That I found a really great wallpaper hanger. And I am thankful we got this issue out the door with minutes to spare. Happy Thanksgiving! Holly Moore Editor in Chief holly@papercitymag.com
