88 MARTINIS, MANHATTANS & Shelby Hodge takes Manhattan. Photography Ken Coffman. W hat better way to say "Let's get this party started" than with an array of artisan-crafted martini glasses. Such was the entree to the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft's evening of Martini Madness. Artists from across the country con- tributed glass creations to fuel the energy for what was billed as "A New York State of Mind." Guests were encouraged to costume as iconic characters of the Big Apple — no surprise, then, that HCCC director Perry Price channeled Andy Warhol via wig, shades, and an old-school single-refl ex camera. He joined the parade of Liza Minnellis and Edie Sedgwicks who romped through the center, martini glasses in hand, as bartenders mixed Deep Eddy vodka martinis and cosmos and Texas Giant Bourbon Whiskey Manhattans. The Photobomb booth provided plenty of props for keepsake photos. BEST OF SHOW: Costume contest winners Nancy Riviere and Ken Rue, outfi tted as Liza Minnelli and Warhol; Heather den Uijl, sporting a Warhol Campbell Soup Can dress; and Sarah Ansell and Alex Mata as the Gatekeeper and the Keymaster from Ghostbusters.
