53 AVANT-GARDE MEXICO By Christina Geyer. Photography Tamytha Cameron Smith. F or the Dallas Museum of Art's new Eugene McDermott Director, Agustín Arteaga, there could not have been a grander curatorial debut than the opening of the blockbuster exhibition "México 1900—1950: Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, José Clemente Orozco, and the Avant-Garde" (on view through July 16). The DMA secured the U.S. exclusive for the show — the largest showing of Mexican art at the DMA in 30 years, which had just wrapped a megawatt run at the Grand Palais in Paris and includes more than 200 works from the foremost influencers of Mexican Modernism. The VIP opening was a celebration in two parts, starting with a stop at the DMA, where international delegations, donors, sponsors, the board of trustees, and other patrons were given a first look at the magnificent show, complete with Patrón Tequila. Later that evening, a select group made their way to Cristina and Harry Lynch's beautiful casa for a private dinner and, for many, the first intimate meet-and-greet with Arteaga, Who was there?
