SETH VAUGHAN REFLECTS ON A SUBLIMELY PURPOSEFUL PARTY. PHOTOGRAPHY PRISCILLA DICKSON. The night's crisp and elegant tablescape Nothing Says Chic Quite like a Cure Catwalk for a Cure's Profound and Poignant Evening with ElieTahari marks a decade of divine dedication. B eauty prevails. This truth is incontestable. So one can't think of a more fitting way to honor the difficult reality faced by cancer patients and those around them than Amschwand Sarcoma Cancer Foundation's annual Catwalk for a Cure, now in its 10th year. Cause co-founder Missy Bellinger, along with chairmen Laura and Mark Dalton and Aynsley and Palmer Letzerich, orchestrated a night that acknowledged both the grace required of those forced to deal with cancer and fashion's unique ability to inspire and uplift. Hotel ZaZa played host to the soirée, with cocktails and a seated dinner in the hotel's dining room overlooking Mecom Fountain. Mistress of ceremonies Deborah Duncan narrated the program, which honored the Johnny O'Leary Family with the Commitment to the Cause Award, accepted by Johnny's mother Stinelli Castaneda O'Leary, and oncologist Rex Marco with the inaugural Commitment to Care Award, presented by patients Haag Sherman and Morgan LaRue. Professional golfer, native Houstonian and 30-year sarcoma survivor Stuart Hendley received the Celebration of Survivorship award, which was presented by his ebullient and adoring daughter, Kamryn. Adding sparkle to the evening was generous support from Nini Jewels, with its namesake Nini Hale on hand to present Emily Covey with a diamond-and-violet-sapphire orchid brooch, which she won via a raffle benefitting the cause. Over coffee and dessert, more confections took to the catwalk, with models showing pieces from Elie Tahari's Spring/Summer 2014 and Editions 1974 collections, with the man himself in for the evening from New York, taking a bow immediately after the show. Generosity was the night's byword: Each guest took home a Tahari suede clutch, care of the impresario himself. Stylishly clad crusaders: Underwriter Saks Fifth Avenue's Bobby Dees, with wife Wezy and colleagues Sylvia Forsythe and Tijuana Harvey; high bidder Jay Fields, who acquired a covetable Alexandra Knight (the designer herself was last year's honoree) auction item for his wife and board member, Allie Fields; Luvi and Carlos Wheelock; Kara and Ray Childress; Joey Blessinger; inaugural catwalk chairman Erin Heath with husband Boyd; Lisa and Josh Oren; Jill and Jeff Collins; Lisa Wang; Victoria Lazar; and Debbie McNabb.
