MARCH | PAGE 19 | 2014 Things Get Wordy for Literacy H ouston Center for Literacy achieved a record-breaking high at this year's Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee by raising almost $200,000 for the cause. Chairmen Nicole and Evan Katz welcomed supporters to the Julia Ideson Library for a night honoring longtime corporate supporter H-E-B, with cocktails and dinner from A Fare Extraordinaire and sweet treats from Sprinkles Cupcakes, leading the way to the event's famed adult spelling bee. Running commentary from Courtney Davis, Nic Phillips, and Bob Singleton provided an amusing backdrop for the decidedly competitive bee, which Linda Marshall and Ben Wickert won by correctly spelling "rasorial." Buzzing through the crowd: Houston Public Library director Rhea Lawson, Cyndy Garza- Roberts, Soraya and Scott McClelland, Karen and Stephen Farber, Ann Stern, Linsay and Jeremy Radcliffe, and Cece and Mack Fowler.
