MARCH | PAGE 71 | 2014 Literary Lions Fête Gulf Coast and Relaunch ArtLies I t was a delicious meeting of the visual and literary arts when nonprofit journal Gulf Coast unfurled its annual gala at the casa of staunch supporter Jeff Fort. Board president Misty Matin presided as chair over the City Kitchen-catered dinner party, whose guests of honor were Austin-based poet Sasha West (National Poetry Series winner) and New York video artist Mary Reid Kelly (whose creepy image graced the off-the-press edition unveiled that night). The evening also toasted the merger of the lauded literary publication with the newly revived art mag ArtLies; the moniker remains Gulf Coast. The crowd lured prose and visual patrons alike, including Cynthia Toles, Melanie Lawson and John Guess Jr., Gwen Goffe, Bill White, Karyna McGlynn, Zachary Martin, Jenni Sorkin, Mimi Kilgore, and the Menil's Karl Kilian.
