The Waugh Drive Bridge Bat Colony . t h g i n t a e t i s g n i z a m a n a s i More than 250,000 Mexican free- tailed bats emerge from crevices found in the Waugh Drive Bridge. They feed on mosquitoes and other insects and can eat up to 50 percent of their body weight. 7. The Gus S. Wortham Memorial Fountain was designed in 1978 by Houston architect and Rice University professor William T. Cannady. Gus Wortham was one of Houston's most prominent businessmen and civic leaders. The fountain was donated to the City of Houston by The Wortham Foundation and American General Life Insurance. 8. One of Anthony Thompson Shumate's Monumental Moments. Shumate created six human- scale word sculptures scattered throughout Buffalo Bayou Park: Explore, Pause, , Listen, Emerge and Observe. 9. The Johnny Steele Dog Park, a two-acre site located near Allen Parkway and Montrose Boulevard, features large and small dog ponds and many "pooch amenities." 10. The park includes shady rest stops such as the Cullen Foundation Overlook; the John R. Eckel, Jr. Foundation Overlook; Graham Family Overlook; Scurlock Foundation Overlook; and Zane and Brady Carruth Overlook. 11.
