Think of it as the ultimate design expert's guidebook — on steroids. Inside are detailed musings from 100 of America's most accomplished design- ers on topics ranging from theory, structure, restraint, and style to process and inspi- ration, with stunning photography. Carl Dellatore, textile designer and frequent home-magazine contributor, has pulled together a comprehensive guide that picks up where Edith Wharton's essen- tial classic The Decoration of Houses leaves off. In the 120 years since Wharton first admonished against fusty Victorian decoration in favor of classical design principles, generations of new tastemak- ers have emerged, ushering in the 21st century with fresh ideas and inspiration. This primer's contributors include estab- lished legends and members of the new guard — Steven Volpe, Vicente Wolfe, Miles Redd, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Rose Tarlow, Brad Ford, Darryl Carter, Robert Couturier, and Charlotte Moss.
